Remembrance Day, Whitehall

An unusually sunny fall day near Whitehall for Remembrance Day. Lots of headgear: bowlers, berets, turbans, shiny helmets with plumes, and bearskins.

CA Roadtrip: $750 swim

The Neptune Pool at Hearst Castle. Melody asked one of the guards if anyone ever falls in the pool, and he said that yes they do, and that when they do they have to call a park ranger who determines if the fall was intentional or not. If they determine that it is intentional, you get cited $750. Then he said that a fellow guard overheard a visitor saying that she'd pay a thousand dollars to swim in the pool, and the guard said that she could save herself $250 by just jumping in.

CA Roadtrip: Red Rock Canyon & Spaceship Spotting

Camping in Red Rock Canyon State Park. The park is near China Lake Naval Air Station and Mojave Air and Space Port, and when we were packing up our campsite I heard about 20 seconds of rumbling and looked up and saw the rocket trail from a trial flight of the Virgin Galactic spaceship.  Then 20 minutes later in a different part of the sky I saw a B-2 bomber being refueled by a KC-135!
