Strawson and Evans

I'm watching a 25 minute video of Strawson and Evans talking about truth, made for the Open University in 1973. They debate the merits of understanding truth in deflationary terms. Evans defends the proposal, Strawson criticizes it. Unsurprisingly, the video ends without resolving the issue. Strawson is about to respond to a proposal that Evans makes for delimiting the range of sentences for which the question of truth can arise in terms of what can be believed, when he looks up at the moderator and says that he won't be able to show why his approach is correct because they don't have enough time.

Brochure

Tom presented some of his work on Ricketts and McDowell on Frege to the Wittgenstein workshop yesterday. After the workshop was over, we walked through what looked like a set-up for a brochure photograph for the university. The guy kneeling in the foreground is a photographer.

Los Comales #5

Went on a drive through the spacious west side of Chicago this weekend. Stopped at Los Comales #5 for lunch.

Ordered tacos and a torta. The waitress asked if I wanted grilled onions with the torta. I said I did, but I wasn't prepared for the massive side of grilled onions they gave me.

The torta itself was pretty decent.

Each table was furnished with its own vat of pickled vegetables.

Spring 2002

Roughly five years ago, during an unseasonably warm day sitting out on the quad, we watched a guy in a fox costume try to talk to girls. You can see the fox in the background of these very low-res photos if you look hard.
