Cabazon, California

These are the dinosaurs that appeared in Pee Wee's Big Adventure. They're in Cabazon, California, just outside of Palm Springs on I-10.

If you walk inside the brontosaurus, you will find a gift shop devoted to creationism. You can buy shirts like this one:



Two days after we arrived, an enormous arson fire was started near Cabazon that we could see in Desert Hot Springs, about 20 miles away.

The 7th Best Pool in the US

Jenny's friend works for some lifestyle magazine or something like that and gave us a video of the 10 best pools in the US. The Aerie pool was #7.

Domaine Carneros

Domaine Carneros. We're big fans of the 1997 La Reve, but it is now impossible to find. We dropped by the winery before the wedding to try the 2000, but when Melody tasted it she said that compared to the '97, it was "garbage". I had to take Melody's word for it. My palate isn't as refined as hers.

Aerie Library

The library at the Aerie. It contains, among other things, hardcover copies of The Dogs of War, The Day of the Jackal, and some book on the Boer War my dad was familiar with. Also on display was one of those heavy things you use in curling.

Aerie Lighting

Isaac messes around with different lighting schemes at the Aerie the night before the wedding. Kraftwerk plays softly in the background.

It's almost time to party.

Ribs N Bibs

I ate at Ribs and Bibs three times this week. It's the default late night Hyde Park eatery. When I move out of Hyde Park, I think I will really miss Ribs N Bibs.



With a few exceptions, the walls are covered with autographed photos of local celebrities, politicians and what I assume are family members.

I would like to ask why Ribs and Bibs has a western theme.

Poochie's in Skokie, IL. About a two hour roundtrip from Hyde Park. But worth it.

The Big Chicago Storm

Kids play on a tree stump in front of Rockefeller Chapel at the University of Chicago. A big storm last night destroyed dozens of trees around campus.




I had to walk in the street on the way to syntax class this morning because the sidewalks were covered in tree trunks and branches.
