One of my goals on this trip to England is to track down some old-style English candies, like those Tyrone Slothrop suffers through in the scene from Gravity's Rainbow quoted above.

Good luck with that. I've had the wine gummies he complains about at one point (a letter to his mother, I think...?) and I actually liked them a lot. I've also had the Thayer's Slippery Elm, which is American but was still a very fun find...
Thanks. I see I can order a case of Thayer's Slippery Elm lozenges for about $30.
I didn't get a chance to visit any traditional sweet shops on this trip, since I overindulged in fish & chips. Next time, though.
