A Night at the Opera

Melody and I went to see Cosi fan tutte at the Lyric Opera last night. If I was quicker with the camera, I would have documented the fur protest outside the entrance to the theater. The protesters know their audience--there were several acres of fur walking around, even though it was probably 40 degrees out last night.

That reminds me of the time I was outside the Needless Markup on Michigan Ave, which has an extensive fur dept., and there was a group of fur protesters walking back and forth in front of the main entrance, with signs or somesuch. Since it was Michigan Ave, there was a fair-sized contingent of high school students milling about as well, independent of the fur protesters. Well, this woman wearing a rather luxurious-looking fur got out of a cab and had to walk straight through the middle of the protesters. The air was think with tension. She tried to be aloof, but you could smell her underlying fear. She was exactly halfway through the gauntlet of protesters when one of the high school loafers yelled out "Get her!". She didn't know it was a high school prank, obviously. She didn't faint, though, and kept on walking, but I don't think she took another breath until she was safely inside.

Part of my motivation for this post was to elicit that story from you. Glad it worked.
